LineageOS 16 ROM for Galaxy A5 2017

Galaxy A5 is one of the smartphones in the mid-range A 2017 series. The Galaxy A5 shares the same specifications to Galaxy A7 2017. The only difference here is the screen size and battery capacity. The device had received LineageOS 14.1 build in the past, and now, the LineageOS 16.0 is now available for it after a long wait.

If you are using a Galaxy A5 2017 and are eager to update your phone to the newer Android version, then you are in the right place. However, before proceeding, you should meet some requirements first so that flashing ROM can be successful. Since this a custom ROM, you will need TWRP recovery to flash the ROM.

Pre-requisites

  • Back up all your important data first as flashing ROM will erase everything on your phone internal storage. You can use your Google account, or Dropbox to back up your data
  • A TWRP recovery is required to flash the ROM. You should install TWRP 3-2-3 recovery or later to flash the ROM. Download it from this link and then use Odin to install it
  • Keep your Galaxy A5 battery at least 50% to avoid bugs during the installation process

Once you meet all the requirements, let’s start flashing LineageOS 16 ROM based on Android 9.0 version on your Galaxy A5 2017.

Steps to Install LineageOS 16 ROM on Galaxy A5 2017

Step 1: First, you need to download the ROM file and Gapps file on your phone:

Step 2: After copying two files into your phone memory, power it off

Step 3: Boot your Galaxy A5 into TWRP recovery by pressing firmly the Power + Home + Volume Up buttons at once for a few seconds. When you see the TWRP recovery screen, release them

Step 4: From there, tap on Wipe > Advanced Wipe and tick on four options: Cache, Data, Dalvik, System. Swipe to confirm your choice.

Step 5: Tap on Install and flash the ROM file first. Wait for the process to complete. Once it’s done, do not reboot your phone yet. Instead, continue to flash the Gapps file

Step 6: After everything is done, reboot your phone and wait for it about 10-15 minutes to boot up.
